G'day, thrill-seekers and snack enthusiasts! After sampling a few bush treats from our grazing platters (don't worry, we’ve triple-checked for any sneaky critters), we're off again on another wild adventure. This time, we’re headed to Warby-Ovens National Park—just a hop, skip, and a roo's leap from Shepparton, about 70 kilometers away.
Now, Warby-Ovens isn’t your typical stroll in the park. It’s more like a bushland buffet, serving up a smorgasbord of nature’s finest—from River Red Gum forests that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into an ancient Dreamtime tale, to the Killawarra Forest where the birds are rare and the trees are older than your Nan’s best yarns. But don’t get too distracted by the scenery—you might miss a Black Wallaby or an Eastern Grey Kangaroo darting off into the bush!
If you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about reptiles), you might even spot a Lace Monitor. These cheeky lizards are known for giving tourists the side-eye, especially when they catch you taking more selfies than a teenage influencer. And speaking of birds, keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Turquoise Parrot—though I reckon it’s just trying to stay hidden from all the 'wannabe birdwatchers' who wouldn't know a parrot from a pigeon.
For those of you who’ve had enough of hiking and need to cool off, grab a canoe and paddle down the Ovens River. It’s one of the best still-water canoeing spots in the state, perfect for paddlers of any ability—or in my case, perfect for those who can’t tell their port from their starboard!
And if you're thinking about camping, just remember: it’s all fun and games until you realize you’re sharing your tent with a curious possum. But hey, that’s all part of the experience, right?
So, whether you’re here for the wildflowers, the wildlife, or just to watch your mate freak out over a spider the size of a 50-cent coin, Warby-Ovens National Park is the place to be. Just don’t forget the insect repellent—trust me on that one!
