Wildlife on Craigmuir Lake House.
Have you ever had the feeling you are being watched while you walk around the bush reserves in #Mooroopna.
We had that experience this #weekend.
Meet the The #Australian #Boobook Australia’s smallest and most common species of #owl. Often called the ‘Southern Boobook’, ‘boobook owl’, ‘#mopoke’ or ‘morepork’, this versatile species is found throughout #mainland #Australia, #Timor, the #Sundas and also #southernPapuaNewGuinea. As a result of recent #taxonomic changes, the species found on mainland Australian has been named ‘Australian Boobook’ (Ninox boobook). The boobooks found in #Tasmania are currently considered a subspecies of Morepork (Ninox novaeseelandiae leucopsis) which is also found in #NewZealand.
Australian Boobooks can live in a wide variety of #habitats including #rainforests, #semideserts, #farmland and even #cityparks. And by the looks of thing in our #backyard. Despite being common and widespread, they are often hard to see during the day as they generally roost well-hidden in dense #foliage.
